An Un-economic Interlude
For a long time, I have been annoyed with the trite economic truths I’ve heard pundits bandying on television (in place of real economic understanding). Usually, they come and give either the standard capitalist formula, or the covert socialist agenda as the solution to all our problems, but (and this really annoys me) they never ask where their ideas come from, or what their ideas are about. And, while they will never say it, they imply this, “Just follow the One True Economic Theory and all will go well!” And, of course, their ideas have been cropping up in the arguments over the Microsoft monopoly and what to do about it. So, as I was writing about Microsoft, I began to have thoughts on the side about political un-economics, and had to write. Also, I have a little to say about people who like to bandy ideological truth in place of hard economic understanding. So, please read.

The Great Welfare Bubble
The Stock Market has risen dramatically over the last decade. Propelled on to ever higher levels by high tech startup’s and dot coms. Yet, some other national economic statistics over the same period have been, frankly, mediocre. So, why is the stock market really rising?
